Went to visit my Vet today, he was pleased with how I am healing.  In fact, he said at 6 days out, it looked better than he had hoped.  I am starting a normal routine again and enjoy going for my car rides each day.

How thankful I am that my surgery turned out this well.  I am on my adventure through recovery.

Doing a little better every day, a few bumps along the way.  Not much drainage now.

With a little help from Mom I can go upstairs to sleep at night now…getting back to normal.  I even managed to get up on the couch today by myself.

Resting now and Mom is doing better since I am starting to get my normal routine back.  I am really lucky to have pawrents that love me that much.

Going to see my Vet tomorrow for a follow-up on my incision.

Day #2 Post Surgery

Wednesday, Day #1 post surgery:

Was a good day, I did well trying to walk, ate slowly, drank some, rested.  I even got really energetic outside and started chasing a sound I heard.  Got to spend the night upstairs like always.  Resembling some sort of partial normal routine.

Thursday, Day #2 post surgery:

Not as good a day.  Had difficulties trying to urinate, no bowel movements as yet.  Mom went to work and when she returned I still couldn’t pee and was feeling very anxious.  Off to the Vet’s office we went.  My blood work is good but still couldn’t pee.  We decided to take a walk around the animal hospital to see if I could pee, I took time to have a bowel movement but still  no pee.  I had to have a catheter and even though I didn’t like it, I feel much better now.  It’s storming here, so I am resting with mom waiting for the thunder to stop.  I am hoping for a better day tomorrow cause I know that when I am upset so is my mom.  While I was at the Vets he also checked my incision and gave us the ok to leave the bandages off.  I’m not sure Mom was ready for that but for now I am wearing t-shirts.  We will get thru this together….one day at a time.

Surgery Day

It’s 3:17 here, surgery is complete and Rambo is beginning to awake.  The Vet thinks he can come home with me tonight.  I am so blessed since I do contract work for my Vet, I have access to him when I need help with my animals and in this case he trusts me to watch over him at home instead of at the office were no one will be there at night.  Max is Rambo’s best bud at home and he is looking for him.

Everyone is our family is cheering Rambo on, for a speedy recovery and back to playing in the yard again.  Here are his family members:

I will be going to see Rambo soon and talk with the Vet about the surgery.

Rambo is home and resting, he did walk some today.  Happy to be at home.

Woof from Rambo….

Mom and I are sitting here tonight remembering all the fun times we have had as I wait for my Surgery day tomorrow.

Our adventure started in 2005 when I was roaming without a home.  My pawmom bought her house and I was hanging around.  She decided to keep me and at about 4 mos of age I found a new home.  The next few months were uneventful until around 8 mos of age I started to limp on my right leg.  We went to visit our vet and after x-rays he said my growth plate had close and my leg needed to be amputated because it would not grow and I would have pain with limping.  My pawmom wasn’t happy with that answer so she took me to the Veterinary Hospital in Colombus, Ohio to see what their opinion was.  That was a hard day, I stayed at the hospital to have surgery and have my leg lengthened.  After 21 days of my leg being lengthened and a plate being placed I fianally got to come home.

A few months of recovering and I was good a new.  That was 11 years ago….

About 1-1/2 years ago I started having issues with my left leg.  We have tried multiple treatment avenues and seen specialists but still the pain, limping and deformity persists.  Since that time we have been trying to manage the pain from my leg deformity and extreme osteoarthritis until the decision was made to amputate my leg.  My pawmom is really sad but she doesn’t want me to be in pain that we haven’t been able to keep under control.  I have been spending close time with her trying to tell her she is doing the right thing.

Like other families on this site, this is the common denominator that brings us together.  My pawmom is spending lots of time reading about other Tripawds and what to expect when I come home while learning how to cope mentally, physically and emotionally.
